This Wedding Rocks, But Not for the Reasons You May Think

#TBT to a wedding in an underground club in New York City's party promised land of the Lower East Side. Not enough for ya? How about the fact that the couple had board games instead of flowers. Still not enough? Her bouquet contained a skull. This Wedding Rocks, But Not for the Reasons You May Think.

For starters, the wedding itself was performed by the couple's friend Corinne. A former dominatrix who turned Reverend right before this wedding took place, Corinne made the union legit. Additionally,, in lieu of a flower girl, their friend Anthony swirled glitter from a pink pouch down the aisle.  Since allergies were a problem for the couple, instead of flower arrangements, the bride sourced vintage board games to be placed around the room. Hungry Hungry HipposOperationPerfectionConnect Four, and Battleship. More fun than flowers, anyway. And it encouraged guests to play and have fun.

The favors were next level: empty beer bottles cut in half and filled with all the de rigeur rock-n-roll supplies.

For example, within the bags could be found custom shot glasses, guitar picks, condoms, ear plugs, and lighters. Furthermore, they were presented in in brown paper bags, personalized, and strewn throughout the club for each guest to find.  Like a Lower East Side Easter egg hunt. The bride’s band took the stage after the ceremony and surprised the groom with a cover of his favorite song,

Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters,” Also, this was the first time in almost 20 years that the bride's parents had seen her perform. It was emotional.

Now to the wedding cake.  It was the scene from Ghostbusters where the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man steps on the church, and Ricky and Donna Marie are the Ghostbusters shooting him on top of the apartment building. The phasers actually lit up and blinked!

For the couple's fine art NYC wedding photography vision, we went with real film. It imparts a slightly retro feel when paired with the bold colors of the party and a fun pop of flash. I used a succession of Leicas throughout the night. So did my second shooters. It was important that everything we used was strictly analog. This was a special request of our bride. She wanted me to "be myself". It was about as much fun as any photographer could have shooting a wedding.
